Placing linkfont on a external storage (SD, Flash) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

    serveral weeks ago I took a look into the font linking mechanism of Windows CE. A customer of us had problems with showing chinese glyphs within a ouput text. Because we (our customer and me) didn't want to exchange the standard font, the font linking seemed to be the ideal choice. I placed the font onto the flash and made the registry entries as followed:

            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontPath]
                "FontPath"="\\Flash\\Fonts"
            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
                "Arial"="\\Flash\\Fonts\\simsun.ttc,Sim Sun Standard"
            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI]
                "FontLinkMethods"=dword:1

    Actually it works pretty fine.

    I'm bothered by only one thing. I had to turn the whole font path to the Flash (line 2 in my reg snippet) folder. I therefore had to place all the standard fonts into that directory, too.

    My question is. Is it possible to make a linkfont relationship to a external font without moving the font search path?

    Any hints would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter
