Custom code generation – use Visual Studio Extensibility/DSL or something else? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to create a simple “unit” (somewhat like Entity Framework designer) that could be included into regular C# project (for example, WPF app). User will provide it with database connection string (supposedly via properties window). This unit will then generate set of code files containing one class per database table. Ideally I’d like to use CodeDOM to generate those classes.

My question: where to start? Do I need to learn Visual Studio Extensibility/DSL or is there a simple way?

    Please advise.

    Thank you,
