Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Compatibility in Windows 8

    Question

  • Will Windows 8 still support Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.  I have a number of clients that still use it on Windows 7, that may migrate to Windows 8.  I tested it on the Developers Preview Edition.  It shows 2 dialogs during the SQL Server setup that states there compatibility issues that can't be resolved.  I clicked install anyways, and it seems to be working.  So, I'm not sure what the compatibility problem is.

Can someone provide some insight as to the future support of SQL Server 2005 Express on Windows 8.  And, if there are compatibility issues what would those entail?

Is my only alternative to install SQL Server 2008 Express on Windows 8 when it is commercially available?  Or, is it fine to run SQL Server 2005?

    Thanks,

    Michael
