Will old code still work after Thursday? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
On Friday lunchtime (GMT) I'm going to be doing an internal SSDS demo. Nothing very flashy, just showing some basic create authorities, containers, entities. And I plan to show them Mike Amundsen's provisioning tool as well.

Thing is, this will only be a few hours after the next release goes live and I won't have time to check my demos against the new service. Is it safe to assume that my old code will still work?

    Thanks
    Jamie

The list of changes and the impact to the customer is outlined in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/dataservices/cc748807.aspx You will find there all our new features etc.

Sorry for the invonvenience. We are working on features that will allow us to upgrade in the future without losing availability.

    Note that the downtime is:
START: Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 9:00 AM (PST)

END: Friday, July 25, 2008 at 9:00 AM (PST)

Since PST = GMT - 8, your demo is inside the unavaiability window.

  • Jamie:

I have *no idea* whether the changes will bork my SSDS-Proxy. Since the Provision Client is all HTML/JS against that proxy, that's the only 'achilles heel' I have right now (but a biggie!). FWIW, I'm *assuming* that my SSDS-Proxy will be adversely affected and plan on a coding/testing session once SSDS is back up.

To make this all more interesting, my daughter is getting married that Saturday (26-Jul). That means I'll not be doing any code reviews until late Sunday (recovery time and all).

If we're all lucky, the SSDS-Proxy will continue to march along w/o a hitch (minus some cool new features). But, I'm not planning on being that lucky [grin].

Oh you're kidding me? That is SO annoying...it would have to be right at that time.

Is there any possibility that the work will finish early? The next chance I'll have to do the demo is in 6 weeks time.

  • Sorry, we cannot guarantee that the upgrade will finish earlier. Also if I were you, I would not demo on brand new build that involves data wipeout.

    Apologies
