MDS 2014 installation on SQL Server Cluster RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are preparing installation of MDS 2014 in Server 2014 cluster.

There was problem with MDS cluster installation in SQL 2012. I found that “Master Data Services in SQL Server 2012 supports installation only in a cluster scenario, Master Data Services in SQL Server 2012 supports installation only in a cluster scenario, without any instance of SQL Server previously installed on the cluster node.“

What are the steps for installation of MDS 2014 in cluster mode?

    Tnx and regards

    Zorko

  • SQL 2014 contains all the CUs and fixes from SQL2012. You don't need apply the CU1 anymore.

So I think if you following the steps in this KB, it should work.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2683467?wa=wsignin1.0

The only step need change is

    setup.exe /action=installfailovercluster /updatesource=c:\CU1Update

You don't need the pass the updatesource anymore.

  • I think you are referring 2012 CU1

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2679368

The MDS 2014 is pretty much same, I don't remember we touch this area ever since.

    What's your scenario?

  • I am referring to 2012 CU1.

What is not clear form me is sentence „Master Data Services in SQL Server 2012 supports installation only in a cluster scenario, without any instance of SQL Server previously installed on the cluster node“ I suppose reason for that is in missing of CU1 on some previously installed cluster environment.

We are preparing fresh installation of SQL 2014 including MDS on two nodes.
Is MDS installation on 2014 standard one, as part of standard cluster installation?
Is there some additional steps that should be done?

    Tnx
