untruncating text in web parts Sharepoint 2.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want all the text to display in a web part on my sharepoint page but I cannot figure out how to do it.  I have played with adding returns at the end of my text and have expanded the size of the web part to exceed the amount of space needed to display all the text but still it truncates.

Another question while I'm at it.  I have a recurring event but I only want the next instance to appear in the web part - as it is now, the next 50 or so instances are listed individually. There must be a way to do this but I can't find it.

    Many thanks!

What kind of web part is it? How much does it show on the page? Can you give some more details?

Please don't use the same thread for multiple questions. If you have a completely separate topic/question, create a new thread instead.

  • Hi Robbin,

You won't be able to create dataview from the browser. You'll need SharePoint Designer to create a dataview. If you simply want to display all content of the announcement, simply modify that web part and change the view. Instead of using the default summary view, configure your own. It'll show all texts.

If you want the look and feel to be like the default setting but with full content, then you'll need to create a dataview. Just do some research on dataview and you'll find lots of guide online. Here's a post that might help you with your announcement dataview if you want to go this route.

  • It's annoucements - just a text field.  Even if I expand the limit of the physical box up to say 3", it only will display several lines of text.  I can't find any setting that allows you to display more text than whatever is the default amount.  As it is, the only way to read all the text is to click on the title and open the web part.  If there is someplace I can send or post a screen print I'd be happy to do so.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Robbin,

Just to confirm, you are displaying announcements and each announcement is showing certain number of characters only. Clicking on the title of the announcement will let you see the full announcement. Is that correct?

That's the default/out of the box behaviour when you put an announcement web part. But you can create a dataview to show complete texts.

  • Yes, this is exactly right.  I'm very much learning hands on and though I know I've seen dataview I can't now locate access to it for this web part.  I've looked two places - in modify web part (drop down upper right) and also in site settings - and I don't see it either place.  If you can possibly tell me where to find the functionality I should hopefully be able to figure it out from there.

    Thanks!
