SSRS 2016 and 2008 side-by-side RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

i have issue and cant find solution for this.

I have installed on server default instance SQL Server 2016 + SSRS 2016 + SSAS 2016 (tabular) + SSAS2016 (multi). Standard version.

Now i tried to add SSRS 2008 to this server, because i need to move SSRS 2008 from old server to other for load distribution workload (new server is used minimaly).

And i have problem with Reporting Service Configuration manager.
If i run RSCM 2016 then i see default instance of SSRS 2016 (and SSRS 2008 instance is not visible - this is expected).
But If i start RSCM 2008 then Report Server Instance is blanked and if i try to Find, it return

    No report servers were found

    Details:
    Invalid namespace

I checked namepsaces via WBEMTEST and everything seem correct.
If i delete via WBEMTEST namespace for SSRS 2016, then SSRS2008 instance in RSCM is visible like a magic.
But if i recover SSRS 2016 namespace via reportingservices.mof then instance of SSRS2008 fade in RSCM.

Recover namespace for SSRS2008 via edited 2008 MOF file - like a known issue - dont worked.

This make me mad, because everythink looks correctly installed, but it does not work.

Any one have experience, or any hint how to fix this?

    Thx D

  • Hi,

    thx for your replay.

namespaces in wbemtest are ok.. I want to have two active SSRS instances - namespace MSSQLSERVER for default 2016 SSRS and namespace RS_SQL02 for named instance SQL02 - version 2008
There are no a ghost/old namespace from any removed SSRS isntance.

Editing 2008 MOF file didnt work (rename RS_SQL02 namespace to SQL02), same as didnt work SP1 + SP2 + SP3 - CU what you refer, it should be included in SP1.

RSCM for 2008 is empty and Find button says "No report serverswere found - invalid namepsace"
RSCM for 2016 found MSSQLSERVER Report server normaly.

But i found workaround for me,
Its about install next SSRS instance - 2008 R2 with SP1.
RSCM for 2008 and 2008R2 is "shared", so after install 2008R2 is used RSCM 2008R2 for 2008 instance.
After install SP1 for SQL Server 2008R2 it start works like a magic...

In RSCM 2016 is visible default SSRS instance of version 2016.
And in RSCM 2008R2 are visible SSRS 2008 instance SQL02 and next 2008R2 instance.

Is any way to install only ReportServer Configuration Manager 2008R2 without SSRS feature?
Btw my OS is Windows Server 2016 (build 14393.0)

    Thx D

  • Hi AAACZ-Dan,

I’m afraid it is not supported to only install reporting server configuration manager. You could try to migrate SSRS from 2008 to 2008 R2 first.

  • Hi AAACZ-Dan,

When you checked namepsaces in WBEMTEST, if its quantity isn’t only one, you could delete the namespace according to your requirement and reopen the Reporting Services Configuration Manager. Please refer to Can't start Reporting Services Configuration Manager for more details.

If editing 2008 MOF file didn’t work, could you please try to install Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008? Please refer to this Microsoft support article.

    Hope this could help you.

    Best Regards,

    Amelia
