how does SSMA assure that consistent set of data is retrieved from Oracle RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I plan to migrate from Oracle 11 to SQL Server 2017.

(How) does SSMA for Oracle Data Migration assure that a consistent set of data is retrieved from Oracle / imported into SQL Server?

    Thank you for support.

  • Hi

Yes, I was wondering whether SSMA takes a point-in-time (consistent) snapshot.

I understand that this is not the case, so we will take care.

    Thank you

  • If you can define what "consistent set of data" means, someone might have a useful comment. The short answer is - SSMA uses queries to extract data from Oracle - so the Oracle engine is "responsible" for consistency. If you are attempting to migrate a database that is actively being updated, then it is your responsibility since SSMA does not attempt to capture a point-in-time snapshot of the database AFAIK. Attempting this sort of thing is, IMO, crazy.
