How do I get the Approve Reject webpart to work when using the Absence Request and Vacation Schedule Management Applications Template? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I downloaded this template but cannot get the Approve Reject part working in my environment. Here is my problem, i would like to be able to have a list that has employee name  and their corresponding supervisor. if a employee does a request for a leave then corresponding supervisor gets notified via email and only the supervisor can approve or rejects the request and send notification to time Keeper via email to do another Approve or Reject.

Is it possible to customize this template or has anyone done this before?

  • Here is a good description of the Absence Request and Vacation Schedule Management template http://blogs.inetium.com/blogs/bcaauwe/archive/2008/01/02/fabilous-40-application-templates-absense-and-vacation-schedule.aspx .

If you want to customize the template to work in the way you describe, you may modify the ApproveReject workflow in SharePoint Designer 2007. You may face the problem of how to allow only the dynamically specified user (the supervisor of the requester) to approve. You can try some useful third party custom workflow activities here to set list item permission: http://www.codeplex.com/SPDActivities .

Another way to deal with this kind of situation is to set the item level permission for the lists (list settings->advanced setting->item-level permissions) so that Applicant can edit only his own application records and Approver can edit only his own approving records. Note that the application and approving records are now two different list items in different lists(or same list).
