.aspx Pages’ “Browse To URL” Setting

    Question

  •

In an ASP.NET project that I inherited, all of the .aspx pages are at the top level, as children of the Project node. intermingled with other file types.

    So I have

    Solution "..." (1 project)
    > PrjName
       > CSS
       > About.aspx
       > Common.vb
       > Devices.aspx
       > Global.asax
       > PrjName.Master

I want to move all of the .aspx files into a "Pages" folder

    Solution "..." (1 project)
    _ PrjName
       > CSS
       > Common.vb
       > Global.asax
       _ Pages
           > About.aspx
           > Devices.aspx
       > PrjName.Master

Having done this, in the pages' Properties, the "Browse to URL" has been changed to include the folder, "Pages." This is messing up links and so on. Altering that property directly doesn't seem to have any effect.

It appears that the intention is to be able to set the URL used to browse to the page (creating a virtual resource location), while the "Full path" property spells out where the actual resource is. But it is not behaving that way.

    1) What is the role of the "Browse to URL" property?

    2) How can I make the aspx pages in the "Pages" folder available without including "/Pages" in the URL?
