What can be done? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't find enough information on what IOT actually is without first getting my feet wet.

Can I run PowerShell on Windows IOT on a Raspberry Pi?  Can I run jobs written for Windows (that do not make use of the GUI) on a Raspberry Pi?

If there's no graphical RDP, how do one access and control a Pi with Windows IOT?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

you manage the Pi either with the PowerShell or with the Browser management panel. IoT is able to Universal Apps. It should be also possible to run scripts or planned tasks.

A RDP client is no available.

  • Start out by reading this: http://ms-iot.github.io/content/GetStarted.htm

You don't have to actually follow the instructions, but simply reading through them will answer a lot of the questions you're asking here.

I read that earlier, but I am still scratching my head. Is the .NET Framework there? Is the .NET base class library available for my applications? Is there a host for PowerShell on the Pi?

Basically, I would like to know roughly what is doable before I invest the resources to go into this.  Perhaps the only way to find out is to just jump in and install.

Interesting. The PowerShell on my PC (Intel) connects to give a Pi (ARM) console session?  Is then the PowerShell on my PC just a dumb terminal?

If I run a job in the Pi console session and the PowerShell is disconnected, will the job continue to run?

  • Hi,

    in simple words: yes.

The PowerShell is "just" a .net terminal. You are able to run headless scripts with limitations.

  • Windows IoT runs Universal Windows Apps. Documentation for the various libraries and frameworks available there can be found here.
