Web App ReportViewer Control Generating Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using ASP.NET 2, VS 2005 in a C# Web Application Project, we have an app which has a problem we have been trying to track  down for months without success.

We use the report viewer control to generate reports which can the be exported to a PDF file or an Excel spreadsheet.  The standard fare.

When certain users, all in the same organisation, all using IE6, click on a "Generate Report" button, the report rdlc file is supposed to open the report in its own web page.  WIth these users however, the error below is generated.  They see a custom error screen, are logged out of the application, and returned to the login page.  They log back in, rerun the report, then everything is fine from then on.  Both of the two forms involved, the one with the report button and the one displaying the report, have their own error handlers.  From the report below I can see that these error handlers are not being called, it is going right to the global.asax file and running the global error handler.

Does anybody recognize anything in this message which can be of help?

    Thanks
    Mike Thomas

  • In the IIS log files, you should see several requests for Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd.  One of those requests will have OpType=Resource in the url query and is failing.  Will you post the full url for that request from the IIS log file?

  • Hi,

We are getting similar exception intermittently on our live server. Following is the full Url & other information from the IIS Log Files : -

    Request information:
        Request URL: http://localhost/CIS Website/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?OpType=Resource&Version=8.0.50727.42&Name=Scripts.ReportViewer.js

    Thread information:
        Thread ID: 100
Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
        Is impersonating: False
Stack trace:    at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.EmbeddedResourceOperation.PerformOperation(NameValueCollection urlQuery, HttpResponse response)
       at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
       at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute()
       at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)

If i copy and paste that request URL , i get the same exception but if in the URL "&" is replaced with just "&" then there is no exception and it returns a javascript file.

Please guide me in resolving this issue.

    Many Thanks,

    Shikha
