3 layer Seperate Servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to setup a 3 tier architecture (presentation layer, business layer, data layer) in 3 separate physical servers (IIS server, application server and Database).

IIS Server - running ASP Pages.

Application server - ????????????????? unknown, since this is what will handle requests from presentation layer (IIS Server), and sends to data layer (Database)

    Database - running SQL Server 2008 R2.

Our question is what is the best or suggested method in which we can setup this architecture?  Is it possible for IIS Server to communicate with another application server?

  • Yes  it is possible for IIS Server to communicate with another application server which can be a COM +/WAS/IIS.

In .net world we do not have separate concept of app server like Jboss in java. This can be achived by writing a WCF Service which can be hosted in IIS. A typical physical model should look like.
