SSRS - Grouping and Subreports together RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a report that is grouped by 2 fields per row and 3 fields per column.

                                          Scenario     Scenario

                                            Client         Client

                                            Site              Site

    DeptName - RoleName         123            345

I need to be able to create a subreport by clicking on DeptName-RoleName and run a VERY similar report with EmployeeName instead of DeptName-RoleName.

                                       Scenario          Scenario

                                         Client              Client

                                           Site                Site

    EmployeeName

I am having issues with the 5 groupings and using the parameters between the base report and subreport.

Right now, it is saying that the parameters that I have created on my subreport are read-only.  I have come up with many errors during this process.  Is this even possible?  I was going to do a drill-down report but couldn't get everything to work as well and thought that the drill through report might be better.  Now I am having second thoughts because of all of the groupings that I have.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Hi bluize76,

Thanks for your question. Based on the description in the thread, it seems that there is one matrix in the mainreport, this matrix has two column groups and three row groups, DeptName – RoleName is one of the group, when you clicked on the values of DeptName – RoleName, you would like pass this value to one parameter in subreport, subreport displays the EmployeeName corresponding to this value, the structure about the other four groups are same as the mainreport, right? If I understand your question incorrect, please let me know.

For the error message “Read-only” of the parameter, I guess you set the parameter as Internal. Please double-click the parameter in the Report Data window of the subreport, uncheck the option of Internal in the checkboxlist of Select parameter visibility.

The sample about how to pass parameters from mainreport to subreport, I would suggest you reference this similar thread I had handled, how to pass parameters in Reporting Services: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/e9bdb706-f5c2-44c2-8436-1c48f931e1cd.

Hope these help you. If there is anything unclear, please feel free let me know.

    Thanks,
    Sharp Wang
