Mirroring and Replication Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys and Gals,

Just a question: Is it possible to have a Active-Passive and Active-Active on the same time?

A customer of ours have a requirement of Active-Passive (Database Mirroring). Recently, they also added to the requirements when the connection from the Application and Server1 is broken, Server2 became Active, so it will became a Active-Active (Replication).  Do guys and gals have a solution on this scenario?

    Thanks,

  • It is possible to have an active/active or multi-instance cluster with both instances live and queryable.

With log shipping and database mirroring you can have an active/passive topology where one node is active and queryable and the other node is in a state of standby or recoverying.

Now if you want to bring the other node online with log shipping you would stop shipping logs and do this to your database restore database DatabaseName with recovery.

With database mirroring you could failover like this:
