    No, you will not be losing point-in-time backups. Yes, you likely need to change the desired retention period back to 35 days after this update has been deployed.

    "To facilitate smooth conversion from DTU-based to vCore-based databases and elastic pools,  the default backup retention period for point in time restore of the DTU-based Azure SQL Databases is changing from 35 days to 7 days. Effective July 1st, this change will align the default retention periods of the DTU-based and vCore-based databases. Customers can set a different retention period using Azure Portal, PowerShell or REST API."
