Exchange 2010 SP3 databases goes to FailedAndSuspended state while backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

My company Exchange environment is having an issue , can anyone help me to fix it?

    The setup:

3 Mailbox servers in a DAG with random active/passive DBs on them, the version is Exchange 2010 SP3 Enterprise edition

Symantec NetBackup is set to "Passive copy only(or passive copy from preferred server list)", so I belive it only backups the passive DBs.

    The issue:

At the time of backup, the passive databases gets to failed and suspended state randomly (some of the databases) every time when the NetBackup starts to run. And the copy status can be resumed manually without any issue and they show health after resume.

    Error message:

some important Event IDs like below:

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service was unable to perform an incremental reseed of database copy 'DB17\MAILMBX03' due to a network error.       </EventData>
    </Event>

    Situation:

1.The passive DBs failed and suspended status only comes out after the backup jobs start to run and it's OK at the rest of the time.

2.The log doesn't miss, I use the command "get-mailboxdatabasecopystatus db01 |fl", the last log file the passive DB is copyed can be seen as a decimal number, then I convert it to hexadecimal number and compare with he log on active DB, the next continus logs can be seen there.

3.Although the NetBackup has been set to backup passive only, I still assume the transaction log is occupied when backuping on active DB , which makes the log file cannot be copied to the passive DB, so it shows the Event ID like 2059.

    Question:

    1. What is the log truncation principle for NetBackup ?

    2. How can I know what is the RC of the issue?

I'll be very appreciate if anyone can help me on the issue. Thanks all.
