Too much screen clutter

Question

In Design mode, my screen is really cluttered with panel overlays that visually block large sections of text that I wish to edit. I've gone through all the app's tabs, looked for an option where I can get rid of the clutter, but to no avail. Any solutions out there?

Is everything unchecked if you click on the panels drop down on the main menu, and also on the workspace drop down which is also on the panels dropdown?

 Yes I've done both of these. I'm probably using the word 'panel' wrong. What I see in Design mode is other blocks of text i.e. the page  footer overlaying the text I wish to edit.  I wich I could send you a screenshot.

Which page view are you in in the bottom left corner?

I'm in design mode. Text from the bottom of the page is overlayed across text on the upper side. I can't see the underlying text, which is what I want to edit. Sure wish I could send a screen shot. Thanks
