RTM Known Issue: Remote Deployment on PC fails to reenable after a reboot RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the Creators Update, after enabling Developer Mode and Device Discovery, tools like Visual Studio and WinAppDeployCmd can remotely deploy an app to the PC using PIN Pairing.  However after rebooting the target PC, remote deployment from Visual Studio and WinAppDeploy fail.

You can confirm this issue is impacting you by querying the sshbroker service, either via

    sc query sshbroker

or the Services tab in Task Manager. If it is not running, this is impacting you.  WinAppDeployCmd will return the following when attempting to connect to a device not running SSH:

0x80131500 - Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
0x80004005 - Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

  • This issue has been fixed in the Fall Creators Update.

To workaround in the Creators Update:

    • After each reboot, go to the Developer Mode settings and disable, then re-enable, Device Discovery.
    • OR run the following in an admin command prompt to set SSH to automatically enable at boot while in Developer Mode:
    sc config debugregsvc start=auto

Each time you receive an update you will need to change the service configuration again (until you've received the Fall Creators Update).
