TFS license with MSDN subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • As our TFS server is licensed using MSDN Subscription. There are some members who don't have MSDN Subscription but they are using corporate licensed visual studio 2013 pro .So can i give them to access on tfs server directly as they don't have neither msdn subscription nor CAL .

Or we have to purchase CAL for that members.

    Please Clarify my doubt.

  • hi Hotam

you should check if the Visual Studio 2013 Pro license includes a TFS CAL.

a Retail VS 2013 does not include a TFS CAL and only Visual Studio with MSDN Subscription include a TFS CAL for the same organisations.

you need to additional TFS CAL for those users - you can either buy a TFS CAL per user - about $500 - which is only valid for the TFS Server with same or lower version. if you upgrade your TFS to higher number you need to buy new license.

Since Sept 2015 there's a another cheaper option to get a TFS CAL for you organisation - buy a Visual Studio Online license and assign it to your tester  - this license costs about $6 per month and is automatically upgraded to latest on-premise TFS versions and can easily be reassigned to another user when no longer required by the current user or it can even be removed from the subscription to save $6/month.
