How to remote update a windows service? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to script out the deployment of an update to a windows service I am working on.

I can remotely start/stop the service with the "sc" command, but can I simply copy over the exe and then start it back up?  Or do I have to use the Instalutill /u command? or use the service installer?

  • Hi shiftbit,

    Welcome to the MSDN Forum.

Please use the command Instalutill. The service is not the same with general executable.

    Best regards,
