How to select a technology for cross platform RRS feed

  • Question

  • How does Microsoft applications like Office are developed for both Windows, iOS and mobile ??

I would like to write similar kind of multi-platform applications.

Two aspects of my question: How to achieve

    1. Cross platform code - running same/almost same code in Win OS, Mac iOS, etc.

    2. Code re-usability between web and desktop application.

While looking for answer to the question, i found below link.

    http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/frameworks-tools-build-cross-platform-desktop-apps/.

It talks about technologies like Xamarin, Electron, etc.

Could somebody suggest how to elect the correct technology and tools for

    1. cross-platform and

    2. code re-usability between web and desktop application.

    Thanks

  • You have a number of choices and you need to be clear on your goal. *If* you only want to use one core technology then HTML/JS/CSS is the only realistic option as nothing else will run on an a plug-in-less web browser. Electron can then be used to create desktop shells. However, I would prefer to go the Xamarin route as I dislike the idea of relying on Electron and JS but that is by no means a strong reason to avoid that choice.
