  • Hi Manishkumar.ce,

Thank you for your log files.

From the log files, I found the error message as the following:

    MSI (s) (14:88) [13:58:23:037]: Product: Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites - English -- Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'MFCMIFC80,version="1.0.0.0",publicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",processorArchitecture="MSIL",fileVersion="9.0.21022.8",culture="neutral"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F. assembly interface: , function: CreateAssemblyCache, component: {8CE12BF6-6B95-439E-B223-1E85CF40A6EE}

This particular HRESULT value "0x8002802F" means "Function not defined in specified DLL".
There are a few possible root causes of this issue. It is typically related to mscoree.dll in the Windows system director.
The most common cause is that the file %windir%\system32\mscoree.dll is missing, corrupt or an incorrect version.

Could you please try the workarounds from the following helpful blog?
    See: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2007/06/12/3260076.aspx
    As Aaron mentioned:
"In most cases, repairing the highest version of the .NET Framework on the system will correct any problems related to mscoree.dll and will resolve the problem if this is the case."

    Some clarification:
What's the highest version of the .NET Framework on the system? .NET Framework 3.5?
If yes, you also can try the automated cleanup tool described at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx to remove .NET 3.5 and then try to re-install the .NET Framework 3.5 and see if that helps solve this issue.

    FYI:
Some helpful information on troubleshooting 1935 errors during installation
    Please see: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2004/11/10/255346.aspx

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

  • Hi Manishkumar.ce,

Windows Server 2008 R2  (all editions) includes the .NET Framework 3.5.1 as an OS component. This means you will get the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 plus a few post 3.5 SP1 bug fixes. 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 can be added or removed via the Programs and Features control panel.

To repair .NET Frameworks on Server 2008, please try the options mentioned here:

  • Hi Manishkumar.ce,

The log file you posted is not enough for further troubleshooting. Error code 1603 is the general error that indicates "Fatal error during installation."

Could you please try to use collect tool to collect the log files of Visual Studio 2008 from your "%temp%" folder?
    http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx

You can upload your log files to SkyDrive and post the link back here.

    Steps:
    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder
    - Install Visual Studio 2008
(The installer must be run with administrator privileges - Right-click the installer >> "Run as Administrator")
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
    - Upload vslogs.cab file

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen

  • Hi Yichun

I am using Windows server 2008 R2 operating system. The .NET framework is available with the OS is ".NET Framework 3.5.1".

Is there any other way to install .NET Framework 3.5 or 3.0 ?

  • Hello All, My install VS2008 and Server 2008 R2 failed because the .Net was not configured from server manager add roll and select .net with all requred.
Reboot the system and run install work with no problem. The reason for the failure was some how if you try to install with out adding the roll it will corrupt the installation.
I have re install the os then 1. Add roll .net from server manager 2. install vs2008 then sp1. Thanks for sharing Best Regards. M Kifle
