Outbound firewall rule to allow Windows Metro/Store apps

    Question

  • Hi guys,

I have looked around and cannot find this info.  I always use the Microsoft firewall that is built into Win8, and I do block outbound connection.  Does anyone know how I can allow Metro apps to get out through the Windows 8 firewall? I need either a program/service rule, or I could also add a rule to allow "all 80 and 443 traffic to 160.15.0.0/16", etc.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Which ports are used will depend on the specific app.

  • Is there a general IP range that these apps use for most communication?  If most of the weather, mail, and stock data comes from Bing and I can add 64.78.0.0/16 or something like that, it might be acceptable.  I just do not know how to allow these metro application to work through the Windows firewall that protects outgoing communication as well.
