Issue with installing VSTO templates on Spanish versions of Windows. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have just deployed our Word 2010 solution to our global IT departments, and all is going well for users with English versions of the Windows OS. Users with the Spanish version have complained that our template does not appear in the File -> New menu.

On my test PC - the template is installed to the following location once Word has opened it for the first time :-

    C:\Documents and Settings\adam.oneil.DOMAIN\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Spotlight\14\Espirito Santo Templates\WD1033\FeaturedTemplates\1\1\Thumbnail.jpg

And the registry key that points to the above path :-

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Spotlight\Content\Espirito Santo Templates\WD1033\FeaturedTemplates\1\1

This works fine and the user is able to view the template and create a new document from the template.

For our Spanish users, the path is changed to :-

    C:\\Documents and Settings\\fhostench.DIFFERENTDOMAIN\\Configuración local\\Datos de programa\\Microsoft\\Office\\Spotlight\\14\\Espirito Santo Templates\\WD1033\\FeaturedTemplates\\1\\1\\Thumbnail.jpg

the registry key is the same :-

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Spotlight\Content\Espirito Santo Templates\WD1033\FeaturedTemplates\1\1

Any ideas what is going on here? It almost certainly has to be a language issue, because the users say that it works on English versions of Windows in the region, but not the Spanish version of windows?
