Will The Store Update An App Installed From Visual Studio? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm working on an app and installed it on my phone, using Visual Studio's Debug option.
Then, I packaged the app and submitted it to the Store.

Once it was approved, I checked to see if the app was updated.
It wasn't, so I opened the Store listing.
It showed the updated changelog, but it said the app was already installed and there was no update option.
I uninstalled the app and re-installed it, from the Store.
Now, I have the latest version.

My thought was that the Store may not update an app that was installed from Visual Studio (or, maybe, because it was installed via Debug).
    Does anyone know the answer?

  • I did find that you can install the Visual Studio Debug version over a Store install version.
It will prompt, letting you know that it will uninstall the Store version and install the Debug version.

I wonder if the Visual Studio Release version would update, via the Store.
Personally, I rarely need to use the Debug features.
    It would be more convenient.
