Question about Win App's and bluetooth

    Question

  • Hello everyone,

I have some question about Win App's and the possibilities with Bluetooth,

we are developing a device which includes a Bluetooth Low Energy Module in it,

we want to do two things with the App:

    1. Control the device over bluetooth. (Ex: A Start and Stop Button on the App, when you press Stop in the App the Device Stop)

    2. Transfer a "Config file" to the device (Ex: In the App we set different variables in the App, Save it, and transfer it to the Device)

Is that posible with Bluetooth LE on Win App ?

    Thank you

  • Absolutely - If you're ok with targeting Windows 8.1 and up there are Bluetooth APIs that are relatively easy to work with. Microsoft has a couple of good sample apps - I'd recommend starting there if you're new to Bluetooth LE development.

  • Thanks for your reply!

As I understand there are two way to communicate to a Bluetooth device:

    RFCOMM

    GATT

But if I'm right RFCOMM is only for Bluetooth classic and GATT for Bluetooth Low Energy.

And GATT works with predefine profiles which all are basically just use to read out an BLE device.

Also on Win 8 Apps, the App device can only be the Client and not the Server ?

I tried to search on the web but you can't really find something usefull to it!

And the Microsoft GATT section lacks of commentary in their example code
