Windows media and missing video files (Scott) 1/4/2008 6:15 PM PST RRS feed

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone had been using the Expression Media
package to add a media gallery. Although the media gallery works well for the
photos, each video file I try and publish claims to be "missing." The error
message I find is "file not found."

I have even created mixed photo and video galleries. Pictures work perfectly
calling the original source photo. And it creates the video thumbnails, but
when I go to click on the videos.... videos are missing. And they work fine
on my saved catalog on my desktop.

Windows Vista and I am using mpegs.

    thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

I just want to confirm that we are looking at the same feature before
moving forward. Are you referring to the HTML Gallery feature under Make >
HTML Gallery? If you are using a different feature, please let me know.

If you are using the HTML gallery feature, where are you getting the "file
not found" error? Is it happening in the web browser or when you are
making the HTML gallery within Expression Media?

    Best Regards,

I was having the same issue about a month ago. what I found is that once I
loaded all video files into media I had to do make all changes and or
corrections and changes settings then make a html gallery in its own
directory. If I forgot to change something in that gallery that I forgot to
do I would have to shut down expression media, start it back up again, do all
changes then make html gallery again in its own directory as previously
stated. For a precaution I emptyed all files in my gallery directory before I
remade the gallery and that seemed to work.

If correct, all videos should be located in your gallery
    directory/source/image directory
once expression media is done makeing the gallery.

I had a hundred or so gallerys to make all containing 20 to 150 wmv files so
it took a while creating a folder for each gallery and makeing a new catalog
for each new gallery I wanted to make.

    I hope this makes sense.

PS - I can't seem to get the video files from gallerys created to play on
Firefox even after installing the windows media player plugin for firefox, if
you have better luck let me know.

Thanks piwo4me - restarting the program and starting from scratch anytime I
made changes along the way finally lead to success. (Will maybe success is an
overstatement.....but it is a workaround). I got the .wmv files to work. And
a .mpeg gallery to work although it seemed unstable as I had to pay the video
several times before the image appeared with the video.

I tried to test it on Firefox and it was a no go for me as well. Both the
.wmv files and .mpegs failed on Firefox while working on Internet Explorer.

Yes Will - I am referring to the HTML Gallery feature under "Make." The
Error I was getting was from right clicking on the box and selected "Error"
as an option and that was the response it was giving me. It was happening on
the internet/web browser while it was working fine on my PC/Catalog I created
and stored on my hard drive. If there is something I am missing about how to
set up the videos, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

I'm glad that piwo4me's suggestion allowed you to generate your video
galleries. As far as the issue you are experiencing, I have not been able
to reproduce it on my test machines. Could you provide some additional
environment details and the steps you are taking when you experience this
    issue?

    1. How are the videos created?
    2. What version of Expression Media are you using?
    3. Does this issue seem to be isolated to mpegs, or does it happen with
    any type of video?
    4. Please provide some sample steps which reproduce the problem when
    executed on your machine.

    Best Regards,
