Regasm gives access error for admin user RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am getting "You must have administrative credentials to perform this task" error for the user with admin privilleges on Windows XP stand alone machine (i don't have active directory).

On Windows XP machine when i create user there are two options available computer administrator and Limited user account. I have created computer administrator and I am trying to register a dll using regasm under that user account but still it gives me above mentioned error.

Can somebody tell me what might be going wrong? I am really clueless.

  • It seems your account doesn't have the privilege to write to the HKLM\Software\Classes registry key.  Check that with Regedit.exe, right-click the key and choose Permissions.
