Disappearing Folders in Linked Table Path RRS feed

  • Question

  • Experts -

A head scratcher: a linked table is suddenly dropping parts of the path to the back end database.  For example, the path is "T:\folder1\folder2\folder3\BackEnd_DB.accdb".  Out of nowhere the path shrinks to "T:\folder3\BackEnd_DB.accdb", causing the "Unable to find BackEnd_DB.accdb" error.

Folder1 and Folder2 still exist - with the same names.  I already repointed this table to the correct back end file this morning and Folder1\Folder2 have dropped out of the path again.

The funny thing is there are other linked tables in this db pointing to the same back end db, that are fine - no alteration to the paths.

    Any idea what that's about?

  • I've not seen that unless there is a group policy that is making a change to the mapped drive. Most of us long-time Access developers will tell you not to use mapped drive letters for the reason that they are not always reliable. Use the UNC path instead. \\myServer\myfolder.
