My Task aggregation with Work Management Service Application + TFS 2012 web access tasks not showing in mysite

Question

I'm trying to get sharepoint 2013 sp1 task aggregation working for mysites from other sites like the tfs 2012 web access area.. 

I have sharepoint 2013 on a 2012 R2 x64 box (call it vsintranet03), while the db is on another 2008 server box with 2008 R2 sql (vssqlprod01).. tfs app portion runs on its own box, but the web access site is on the same sharepoint 2013 box along with mysite (on the vsintranet03).

If a user creates and assigns a task to another user, then that user looks in their mysite area under my tasks, the task does not appear there.

I've ran through the work management service application setup process.. ensured the same account has permissions in the various app pools and db's per several links online.. i've resynched the user profile service.. i've recrawled the search service as well.. all to no avail..

Its my understanding that Exchange 2013 may be required however.. i'm not sure if its really needed just to see tasks between tfs web access tasks and my site or for the actual outlook integration features (i'm assuming just for outlook integration, so maybe thats not the issue here).

Can anyone think of anything else to check to solve this?

Also... we are running version 15.0.4569.1000 of SP2013.. only 1 single farm as well

I had also run through the steps on this page to ensure proper access.

Also.. In our Search service application, edit content source.. i verified the crawl settings..

for start addresses we have:

http://intranet

http://mysite

http://tfs02

yet despite this.. if you search from say the intranet page for tfs02 site content terms, they dont yield results for http://tfs02 (tfs site)

Also.. content found on mysite doesnt show up in an "intranet" search either.

The crawl has results, about 19,000 of them as well and among those results are in fact the tfs02 site links which dont show up in search results  EDIT: actually the tfs02 entries do show in the search but only after you change the pull down to "everything" in the search window
