  • hi to all

    I successfully installed windows  8 consumer preview in my machine and i download the sample application from this link:


    and i saw the examples .Its quite confusing to me.I'm familiar with XNA and I'm not aware of DirectX and C++.

    In XNA we have initialize ,Load content , update and Draw methods but i cant able find anything in Win 8 environment.

    If i want to draw a text and draw image means what are the methods i should follow and where can i start my code in DirectX and CPP.

    Please help me on this..

  • You may want to take a look at the SharpDX library if you are looking for a C#-based solution.  http://www.sharpdx.org

    That said, you don't have the "XNA Content Pipeline" available except in the XNA Game Studio product. The samples provide some support for content loadiing and VS 11 includes some support for building it. Look at the ResourceLoading sample in particular.

    I checked with your answer. Thanks a lot for your answer. But your mentioned to use SharpDX I tried with that but that's not applicable for Windows 8 consumer Preview. I cant able to  understand the XNA content pipeline. In Web I studied if we are using XNA means that Apps not come under Metro Style Apps...But I'm not sure on that...Please check on that ..

  • They note that SharpDX is being updated to the Consumer Preview on their website. They supported Metro for the Develoepr Preview.

  • What makes you think XNA will be supported on Windows 8 ?  Pretty sure that Microsoft are giving up on XNA for WinRT platform.  Pretty stupid really.  Why do Microsoft gave up on .NET, Silverlight and XNA.  Hey Ho. 

    I hear rumours of some white paper to help us translate XNA code into some new WinRT code base.  Because most of us do not want to go back to C++/ DirectX  coding, HTML5/Javascript Metro simply does not deliver perfomance, and relying upon third party C# graphics libraries (c.f. SharpDX)  is pretty patchy way ahead.

  • There is a new solution for this problem.

    Some of the XNA games were successfuly ported to WinRT with help of MonoGame.

    You can also port it to other platforms and it is free.
    ARMED! is a good example of that. It runs on WP7 and WinRT.
