Problem with notification services on DB copied from another host RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server Standard 2003 SP2.  Notification services seem to work fine from my web application, but are broken when activated from NUnit unit tests.  I used the information at http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/t-sql-programming/using-and-monitoring-sql-2005-query-notification/ to determine that the subscription is successfully created, but something goes wrong when SqlServer tries to process the notification -- there is no "subscription fired" event -- and DbDataAdapter.Update fails with a SqlException that simply says "A severe error occurred on the current command.  The results, if any, should be discarded".

SQL Server's ERRORLOG contains the following:

    2009-11-05 16:55:25.46 spid55      ***Stack Dump being sent to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\SQLDump0101.txt
2009-11-05 16:55:25.46 spid55      SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 55 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
    2009-11-05 16:55:26.02 Server      Error: 17310, Severity: 20, State: 1.
2009-11-05 16:55:26.02 Server      A user request from the session with SPID 55 generated a fatal exception. SQL Server is terminating this session. Contact Product Support Services with the dump produced in the log directory.

To the best of my knowledge, I've done all the things you need to do for a database that was copied from another host (alter authorization, set new_broker, set enable_broker).
