SQL Server Upgrade Path RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have an SQL 2000 SP4 box running on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 32-bit Server which I have been tasked with upgrading to a Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2012 Server which is yet to be built.

The current server houses around 15 databases, roughly 30 DTS packages and a load of agent jobs.  It is not published in AD, is not replicated anywhere and isn't Mirrored, clustered, Configured as a Publisher or a Distributor.  It Has Named Pipes and TCP/IP enabled, but not VIA or any other protocols and is currently configured for Mixed Mode Authentication.

What are the probable pitfalls I am going to hit?  I know I will need to make a quick pitstop at 2008 due to the lack of upgrade path for 2000>2012, but is there anything else that I should be aware of?  Any best practice, links, common issues or general advice would be greatly appreciated as this is a business critical system used by hundreds of people with no failover or current backup...
