  • Hi Preetha7,

According to your description, you want to install SNMP to monitor SQL Service.

Simple network management protocol (SNMP) provides the ability to monitor and communicate status information between a variety of hosts. However, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is no longer supported to monitor SQL Server from SQL Server 2005 and later version. Please refer to the Change History section of this article: Tools for Performance Monitoring and Tuning.

So in this scenario, if you are using SQL Server 2000, you can install SNMP service refer to this article: http://www.manageengine.com/products/oputils/help/snmpinstallation/install_snmp_win.html. Otherwise, if you are using SQL Server 2005 or later version, I would recommend you to use the Get-WmiObject cmdlet and win32_service class in PowerShell to monitor SQL Service. For detail information, please refer to this article: Steps to monitor the SQL Server Services.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Best regards,
