Returning data from webservice with an unknown no of rows and columns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am parsing a CSV from the client, but i dont know what the end format of the csv will be (am creating an import template with this process)

The CSV parsing is being done server side with a web service and Kent Boogarts KBCsv, thats all fine, I have the data...

The problem is getting the data back, the format returned from KBCsv is its own custom type and loses the data once it is accessed, so it needs to be put into another container.

Since the data is a table, I have tried multidimensional arrays of string, list of(list of string)) - that one I actually had a lot of success with, and finally my most disliked but often necessary adversary a datatable (thats wrapped in a dataset for serialization)

None of it is working! The dataset returns raw XML, shouldn't it be a dataset object?

    Help!

EDIT: Ah HA! Silverlight doesn't do datasets (or so it would seem)... What other container can I use?
