Does HCK/WLK support certify driver for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials or Windows Server 2012 Essentials? RRS feed

  • Question

  • From the Windows 8 Hardware Certificate Kit Release Notes in link below, "Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials" and
"Windows Server 2012 Essentials" are not listed on the Supported OS for HCK.  How do we certify the driver for this OS?

    msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/windows/hardware/hh852378

    Supported operating systems

The HCK can be used to test the following operating systems:
    1. Windows 8 x86 and x64
    2  Windows RT (ARM-based)
    3. Windows Server 2012 x64
    4. Windows 7 x86 and x64
    5. Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
    6. Windows Vista x86 and x64 (Certification not supported—drivers can be submitted for signing only)
    7. Windows Server 2008 x86 and x64 (Certification not supported—drivers can be submitted for signing only)
    8. Windows XP x86 and x64 (Certification not supported—drivers can be submitted for signing only)
    9. Windows Server 2003 x86 and x64 (Certification not supported—drivers can be submitted for signing only)

  • Windows Small Business Server 2011 is actually server 2008 R2 with a custom shell that simplifies the things a small business needs to do.  So the driver certification would be for Server 2008 R2.  Since there is only x64 for server 2012 the certification you are after that matches to "Windows Server 2012 Essentials" is the Windows Server 2012 x64.  Good luck with your small business product!

  • David,

Due to an inbox driver conflict, we are unable to leverage our standard driver (a.sys) with Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. To work around this issue, we have a separately named driver a_sbs.sys that can be used for these Windows Server variants (such as SBS).  The renamed driver (a_sbs.sys) is exactly same driver as "a.sys" with few changes in .INF file to take the a_sbs.sys driver.

Our concern is that is it an issue submitting two drivers that support the same products and OS support, but differ in only the name?

That is, we are going to do two submissions with the same product for Windows Server 2008 R2.  One submission for driver A.SYS with A.CAT, A.INF to use for Windows 2008 R2, and one submission for driver A_SBS.SYS with A_SBS.CAT, A_SBS.INF to use for Windows SBS 2011 Essentials.

    Thanks
