Spy++ Game window cannot be spied upon.

    Question

  • I'm trying to see the messages for a game. But Spy++ returns:

The specified window cannot be spied upon. Windows will not allow access to the message stream for this window.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Nappyy,

There are two versions of Spy++. The first version, named Spy++ (spyxx.exe), is designed to display messages sent to a window that is running in a 32-bit process. And another version named Spy++ (64-bit) (spyxx_amd64.exe), is designed to display messages sent to a window that is running in a 64-bit process.

Please check the Game process to make sure which version of process it is used. And choose the correct version of Spy++ to see the messages for this game.

In addition, please check the Game process, whether it is belong to CSRSS process or CMD process? If it is a CSRSS process, is protected and cannot be hooked without special debug privileges.

    Please refer to:

If possible, please tell us what game do you want to spy and tell us the detailed spy steps that you do, which could help us reproduce your problem and find out what happened for your situation.

    Best Regards,
