How can I legally sell Microsoft based software? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm a student at the University of Central Florida and i'm in the design phase of developing a business application to sell. I'm sorry in advance for the many questions.

First: I currently have a DreamSpark account, and I read that i'm prohibited from selling software I create with Visual Studios Professional that I obtained from DreamSpark. I also read that I am allowed to sell applications I make using any "express" version. (Correct me if i'm wrong on any of that).

Second: Can someone explain to me how licensing works with Microsoft? If I buy Visual Studio 2010 Professional, does that allow me to sell any software I make with it with no restrictions? Or do I need a license (pay microsoft) for each person I sell my software to?

Third: As a student, what is the best way I can obtain the "license" or ability to sell my software commercially. I've looked into the express additions, but it lacks important functionality for me. I have the professional edition of Visual Studio, but how can I legally sell software I make with it?

Fourth: What about Visual Studio Lightswitch? Same questions..

Its difficult to find any concrete information about this. ANY extra info is very welcome, I want to be able to figure this out and continue development as fast as possible.

    Thanks, Dmor.
