need elevated permissions to add/move folders and make files writable, etc.

    Question

  • Hello,

I created a Linux VM and I can access it via SSH...but I do not have adequate permissions under the standard login to move folders and make certain files writable, etc.  I need to be able to log in as root or somehow otherwise elevate my permissions.  How can I do this?  I am denied the mkdir command and I cannot change permissions on files within folders already present.  This is a problem for me, since I need full administrative rights to the server, to make any changes necessary to files and folders.

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thank you very much.
