Another .NET 3.5 SP1 Installation Issue RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I am having a very difficult time in installing the latest .NET 3.5 SP1 update.  I have attempted to install the update from both the Windows Update as well as the redistributable package.  My OS is Vista Home Premium SP1.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Log and install information below:

  • Please make sure that only one installation is running at one time.
Try to cleanup the %temp% folder before running the installation again.

If still have problems, please collect vslog.cab again for further analysis.

    Thanks.

  • After the installation did you see any dd_dotnetfx*.txt log files in the %temp%?
To confirm the installation state, can you please use the .NET Framework verify tool to verify all versions of .NET Framework on the machine: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/f3f4a75b-9b7d-444d-aa4f-6c01d6f62f72#NET_Framework_verification?

    Thanks.

  •  I did not see the requested file in the %temp% folder.

As far as the verification, the results as are follows:

    Failed Verification:

    1.0, 1.1, 3.0 SP2 & 3.5 SP1

    Verified:

    2.0, 2.0 SP1, 2.0 SP2, 3.0, 3.0 SP1, 3.5

    Here are the verification logs:

  • Thanks for your information.

Can you please try installing .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en again?
Then check out the %temp% again.

  •  I did as requested.  It appears that the proper logs have been captured in the vslogs.cab file this time.

    [02/19/09,22:10:09] InstallReturnValue: GFN_MID NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS), 0x8e5e03fb

Before the installation failing, the last action was installing .NET 3.0 SP2: NetFX3.0-KB948610-v6001-x86.msu.
And the return value 2388526075(0x8e5e03fb) probably refers to  EVENT_SERVER_CONFIG_RESTORE_FAILED.

    Several suggestions:
Please make sure you run a single setup at one time.
And also check if there is any AntiVirus, try turning it off during the installation.
You can manually extract the 3.0 SP2 patch out of the .NET 3.5 sp1 installation package: .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package) by running "dotnetfx35.exe /x" (without quotes in command line), and then running single patch setup: \dotnetmsp\x86\NetFX3.0-KB948610-v6001-x86.msu.

    Thanks.

  •

I tried to install the patch as you described but I just got a simple message that stated the patch was not installed.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  • What did the message say?
Can you see the update KB948610 in Control Panel> Programs and Features >Installed Updates?

    Thanks.
