[ASK] Linq and MySQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am new to Linq. I have tried it with SQL Server and it works.

But now I want to use MySQL Server, when I add an item 'LINQ to SQL Classes'.
And go to server explorer then add a new connection to my MySQL Server. It works until there.
When I tried to drag and drop a table from MySQL Server into my 'DataClasses1.dbml' working area, I got an error message like this 'the selected object(s) use an unsupported data provider'.
How can I solve it? Can I use Object Relation Designer for MySQL provider?
If can't, is there any alternative so I still can use it?

Note: I already tried 'Dblinq' and add references, but still the same error.

    Thanks.

  • I haven't used one so can't actually recommend any but a quick search showed:

Official MySql Entity Framework provider at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/6.0.html

    Alternative LINQ providers:

    http://www.devart.com/dotconnect/linq.html
    http://code2code.net/DB_Linq/

  • LINQ to SQL works with Microsoft SQL Server only.

Some third-party alternative LINQ providers are available to connect to non-MS databases either as their own complete LINQ provider or as a database provider for Entity Framework.
