Can I use Kinect for X Box One + Windows adapter to run apps without the development kit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've heard that you can only run Kinect apps without the development kit only if you have a Kinect v2 for Windows version. I bought one some months ago, but now I want to buy a second one but I can only get the X Box One version + Windows adapter from microsoft store at USA.

My question is, if I sell an app, my customer could use a Kinect for X Box One + Windows adaptar to run it (without installing the development kit, since he is not a developer)?

    Thanks.

  • The Kinect Runtime is what you need to run (but not compile) Kinect applications. It should be installed automatically via Windows update when you plug in the Kinect, just like the driver.

But that never worked for me. Instead I had to download the runtime installer here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44559
