  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

What is the key difference between

    Azure IOT SDK: https://github.com/Azure/azure-iot-sdk-c

    Azure IOT Edge: https://github.com/Azure/iotedge

What additional features does IoT edge has and any sample application to try out.

  • This excerpt from the docs summarizes IoT Edge very well:

Azure IoT Edge is a fully managed service built on Azure IoT Hub. Deploy your cloud workloads—artificial intelligence, Azure and third-party services, or your own business logic—to run on Internet of Things (IoT) edge devices via standard containers. By moving certain workloads to the edge of the network, your devices spend less time communicating with the cloud, react more quickly to local changes, and operate reliably even in extended offline periods.

you can find tutorials to try it out here at the documentation page: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/iot-edge/

I guess it depends on what you are trying to build to see which one makes more sense for your project.

  • Hi Alberto,

I would like to build some logic for MCU (Edge Computing) which requires small foot memory with RTOS environment. Whereas "Azure IoT Edge" seems portable to Linux and Windows OS but not in MCU environment.

Please specify any guidelines on porting it to MCU environment.
