Excel 2013 Add-In Compatibility RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm working with a team that is developing an Add-In for MS Excel 2013.  We're having some compatibility issues between our Add-In and other Add-Ins commonly deployed in Excel.  Our Add-In isn't working when the Euro Currency Tools Add-In is enabled -- our task panes won't show up.  But it will work in Excel 2013 when the tool is disabled.  In Excel 2010, the Add-In works all the time.  Has anyone encountered this issue before?  What is the workaround?

  • Why don't you disable the Euro Currency Add-in when your add-in loads ? When your add-in is closing, re-enable the Euro Currency Add-in if it was enabled.

Check for the version and only do this with Excel 2013.

  • Hello,

Disabling another add-ins for a user is not a good idea.

Instead, I'd suggest contacting the problematic add-in developers and try to solve the issue together. Just try to reproduce the issue with a newly created empty add-in and then send it to them for demonstrating the issue produced by their add-in.

As workaround, you may check the COMAddins property of the Application class and see whether the problematic add-in is installed and enabled. If so, you can display a message to a user asking to disable it to get your add-in running correctly.
