    Is there a way to know the user who started the workflow.

  • If you're using Workflow Services and start it off using a Message Activity then you could plug in a security mechnism to store the user account. 

    Otherwise you could use a custom activity to start it off and get the user account that way.

    My impression is that, WF runtime, doesn't differenciate between "workflow owners", but the Dave describes in more detail this story in the diescussion I just mentioned.
