    Hi Team,

We have some legacy application which only support SOAP services and we have been creating ASMX & WCF services for providing them new features.

We know that WCF is no longer going to be supported from .NET 5.0, so we were wondering if there is any such sunsetting plans for ASMX services ?

As of now we can create ASMX services using .NEt 4.7.2 on VS2019 but would be helpful to know if any of it (template, feature, etc. ) migrt be retiring soon.

    regards,

    Rohan W.

To be accurate, both WCF and ASMX will be supported after .NET 5 is released. They will be included in .NET 4.8 and that will be supported as a component of the OS that they are installed on.

If you are concerned that new versions of VS might one day no longer provide tooling support for ASMX or WCF, keep the previous version as well as installing any new versions. VS caters for side-by-side installation. Personally, I think it's highly unlikely that you would need to worry about this for the foreseeable future. There are zillions of pre-.NET Core apps that still need to be maintained (like yours).
