Visual Studio 2010 project not recognizing .Net Framework 2.0 is installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running Visual Studio 2005 with .Net Framework 2.0  and it works well.  Upgraded to Visual Studio 2010.  When I open a project that references .Net 2.0 I get a message telling me that .Net Framework 2.0 is not detected, do I want to upgrade to 4.0?  I do not, as we are using 2.0.  How does Visual Studio 2010 determine which version I have installed.  In my registry under local machine/software I have Net Framework Setup which has folders for v1.1.4322, v2.0.50727, v3.0 , v3.5 and now v4 since installing VS2010.  I am running XP sp3 for my OS.

    I have uninstalled Visual Studio 2010 and uninstalled .Net Framework 4, 3.5, 3, 2.. reinstalled 2.0, 3, 3.5 Visual Studio 2010 (which installs 4.0)  with same result.

    versions of .Net that I have 1.1, 2.0 sp2, 3.0 sp1,  3.5 sp1, 4.0

  • Thanks for the reply with links.  I was already on .Net 3.5 sp1 which seemed to be the most important part of these articles.  I uninstalled VS2010 again today and reinstalled it from disk versus an iso that I copied locally.  It seems that it possibly did not correctly install.

When installing it previously I had used Virtual Clone Drive.. and it made me reboot part way through the install (not sure if it told me why), when I rebooted, it did not pick up where it left off.  (Assuming there were more steps.. but maybe not)

Anyways, I opened an existing csproj today after the reinstall and am very happy to see that .Net 2.0 is recognized.  thanks again.
