Forums seem to be broken now in Google Chrome? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am getting some weird errors now trying to access forums in Google Chrome. I also received email from Kalman that he can not access threads (can not sign in).

This is seems to be my problem also.

  • I've been unable to sign into the TechNet forums for a few days now with Chrome 24 or Safari 6 on a Mac, whilst IE has been OK. Deleting all cookies for any TechNet sites has allowed me to now sign in OK.

  • This is what I see in Google Chrome

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

I'm using IE9 right now, but I prefer to use Chrome.

  • Using IE9 I can only access the Technet forums. All MSDN forums produce the error "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.".

I can get to the MSDN forums using Firefox 18.0.1.

  • I am getting this exact error in Chrome. I am still able to access forums in IE9.

  • Not working for me :((

    Tried to access this thread

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/f985c0c9-fbf0-49e8-96c2-910c01c1738c/#33ce38fc-0434-417b-90ca-7aeb25150cfe (sent me by e-mail by Dave P) but I am getting the error above. I am able to open it in IE 9.

BTW, it doesn't show any deleted posts (although I guess it did have Dave's post). Why I can not see that something was deleted?

  • BTW, it will be a great inconvenience for me to switch to IE as I use Chrome as default browser.

  • Works for me in IE8, Chrome and Safari, but not in Firefox. One computer has latest version of Firefox, and the other still has 14. Both give me the same error mentioned above.

  • Currently, I can access the MSDN and Technet forums again in both IE9 and Firefox 18.0.1.

    Thanks!

  • I found with Chrome that when it was trying to use my saved password it failed to connect.  I went to another Technet site, signed out, then restarted Chrome.  Working fine now.

Ed, it looks like you replied to me. I don't use Chrome at all, only IE9 and Firefox 18.0.1 (on Windows 7). I couldn't get into the MSDN forums using IE9 for several hours yesterday, but it's OK now.

  • I am using the latest version (24). I was able to open the forum, but it doesn't sign me in. When I try to click on 'Sign in' control at the top it does nothing. So, I can only use forums in the read-only mode from Chrome now.

    What should I do?

I tried to use this workaround but it didn't work for me.

  • They are still broken for me - I am unable to access any msdn thread or forum. There seems to be some weird redirect and then finally I get the error I post. I am able to access forums only if there is technet in the url.

In my case, I found that some of my usual methods of getting started weren't working, so I found alternate routes in to them.   I suspect both methods probably resulted in the same outcome:  fresh cookies which avoid the symptom.   I can't remember if I tried InPrivate Browsing--not likely because I was trying to avoid signing in.   <eg>

  • How did you delete cookies for TechNet and MSDN forums only? Can you please list the steps as I always forget how to do it. I do not want to lose my cookies for all other sites.

  •  I do not want to lose my cookies for all other sites.

I didn't delete any.   Just find a different way in to what you want to do.  Alternatively, use InPrivate Browsing (Ctrl-Shift-P, in IE).

  • My question was addressed to Aaron. I found that I can open incognito window in Google Chrome and I am able to log in and proceed as usual. Unfortunately, it opens a completely new instance of Google Chrome and I want it as a separate tab in my existing instance. So, this is again not a solution which will suit me.
