Unable to publish to any target

    Question

  • Ever since installing Visual Studio 2015 Professional Update 2, I am unable to publish to any target at all. I repeatedly get informed:

"Could not load file or assembly Microsoft.VisualStudio.ProjectSystem.DotNet.Internal - The system cannot find the file specified."

    Visual Studio Publishing Error

Has anyone experienced the same issue and managed to resolve it?

I have repaired Visual Studio: No Success

I have reinstalled Visual Studio: No Success

I have ensured that all updates have been applied to Visual Studio: No Success

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Try this if your still stuck...

    1. Uninstall VS (But save the projects you want first)
    2. Go to user/appdata and look in both local and roaming for any references to Visual Studio, delete them
    3. Go to programs folder and delete Visual Studio 14
    4. Now reinstall
    5. See if that fixed the issue.
    6. If not try to repair VS install.
    7. If your still in trouble, then this sounds like a bug...

How do I know this stuff?  I went through similar install fails not loading everything with community edition, the steps above fixed the problem.

  • Try installing DotNetCore.1.0.1-VS2015Tools.Preview2.0.3.exe as suggested here.
